Applicants will be assessed on their education, training, knowledge, skill & experience (K.S.E.) and responsibility. Due consideration will be given to those who are qualified only by practical experience. There are many people who, through no fault of their own, have not had the opportunity to gain academic qualifications during their careers. These people may also apply for membership based on their own individual merits, practical experience and position.

Membership of IMS will confer the following benefits:

• Use of the appropriate designatory letters.
• Professional status and recognition.
• Option to study professional diploma courses.
• Progression onto a degree programme.
• Subscription to the IMS journal at a nominal fee.
• Free advert in the journal when seeking a new position.
• Free advert in the journal when recruiting for your company.
• Recommendation of new members gains reduced fees.

Additional Qualifications:

Once a member:

• The Management Specialist Award (MSA) can be applied for, depending upon the grade of membership.
• Specific Registration can be applied for and successful applicants will be issued with a Professional Status Certificate stating their particular area of expertise.
• The Professional Manager’s Diploma (PMD) can be gained by exemption.
• The Practitioner in Professional Management (PM) Certificate can be applied for to authenticate management skills and status.

Student Member - Stud.I.M.S. (Cert.IMS)

The applicant should have completed the first year of a course of studies or be qualified to NVQ Level 1, Foundation GNVQ. Foundation skills in occupations to operative or semi-skilled occupations.

Associate Member - A.M.I.M.S. (Dip.IMS)

Holders of NVQ Level 3, Advanced GNVQ, ONC/OND, City & Guilds, BTEC or SCOTVEC/SQA awards. Also those with relevant professional qualifications and/or appropriate experience and management and specialist trainees. Technician, craft, skilled and supervisory occupations.

Full Member - M.I.M.S. (Dip.IMS)

Holders of NVQ Level 4, HNC/HND, City & Guilds, BTEC or SCOTVEC/SQA awards. First, Foundation, Associate’s & Bachelor’s Degrees. Also those with relevant professional qualifications and/or appropriate experience as a specialist and new managers. Technical and junior management occupations.

Fellow - F.I.M.S. (Dip.IMS)

NVQ Level 5 & Master’s Degree. Chartered, professional and senior management occupations. Also those with relevant professional qualifications and/or appropriate experience as a specialist.

Companion - Comp.I.M.S. (Dip.IMS)

Holders of a Doctorate Degree and those in a senior management or specialist position.

Note:

• We will also take membership of other professional bodies into account.
• The equivalent worldwide qualifications will apply in each grade.
• Application can be made to be upgraded to the next level of membership as further K.S.E. (Knowledge, Skills & Experience) is gained.
