Joris Meersmans recently celebrated his 25th anniversary with IMS Group. With the knowledge and experience he has acquired, he is the linchpin between the team, the client and the end user. “Liaising with people is the crux of my job”. As a Key Account Manager, Joris is the point of contact for IMS Group's aftermarket clients in Belgium and Luxembourg

Joris has been working for IMS Group since 1996, so he certainly knows the ropes. He supports distributors with sales advice, technical support and aftermarket service on a daily basis. A client visit requires good preparation. “We do not spew hot air, we give clients sound advice supported by facts and figures,” explains Joris.

This is a genuine team sport

In his role, he regularly visits big clients to discuss business, but he also visits workshops and end users to advise on IMS products. A multi-faceted role with a great deal of client liaison in which effective collaboration is paramount. Collaboration is the driving force behind Joris' success, as well as that of the company. Effective collaboration stands or falls with the success of an account. “An account manager is often labelled as solitary or a loner, but I stand by it: for me, this is a genuine team sport. I also work with colleagues in the service department a great deal. It's not just about the sale of a product, it sometimes also concerns technical problems. The ability to collaborate effectively is then essential.”

Appreciation from clients

Transport is an industry in which you need to act quickly if necessary. “Are parts needed? Or are there technical problems? We'll take care of it!” Thanks to Joris' experience of the industry, he is able to act quickly when problems arise. The appreciation he receives from clients in return is what motivates him to go to work with great enthusiasm every day.

Every day is a success

Joris regards every day as a success, even normal days without ‘highlights’. Successes include closing a good deal, a successful sale, developing new relationships, as well as being able to assist the end user, for example. “The fact I get to represent the leading brands of IMS every day is fantastic”.

Enthusiasm is contagious

Joris' enthusiasm is contagious. He eventually hopes to instil his spirit and drive in prospective colleagues. To enthuse people to work as a Key Account Manager in this industry. “I want to share my knowledge and experience, by how I do things, by what I perceive. I hope to be able to pass on my passion that way. I mentioned that in my short speech at my 25-year anniversary celebrations too, that I hope to be able to do that for the company!”.
